The connection between one piece of cable and another piece of cable is called the cable connector. It has the effect of connecting conductors, insulating, sealing and maintaining.

(1) The basic request for the center connector: The center connector and the cable terminal head of the cable are weak links in the safe operation of the cable, so special attention should be paid to the selection and construction requirements. The structure of the center connector of 10kV and below is basically the same Like the terminal, it mainly includes four parts: freeze-joining of guides, strengthening of dimension level, waterproof and sealing, and mechanical maintenance. The basic requirements for the central joint are now divided into the following:

① Excellent conductor connection. It is required that there is an outstanding connection between the cable core and the connection, so that the touch resistance at the connection is small and stable.
②Reliable insulation. It is necessary to have an insulating structure that can satisfy the long-term safe operation of the cable line under various conditions, and have a certain margin.
③Excellent sealing.
④ The mechanical maintainability is better. The metal shell of the center joint is the key to maintaining insulation, and the effect of mechanical maintenance at the joint.

(2) Types of center joints: The center joints of cables of 10kV and below have cast iron integral type, steel plate sealing welding butt joint type, lead (copper) or aluminum alloy casing type, plastic, epoxy resin casting and other forms. At present, a center contact box made of lead (copper) and aluminum alloy is widely used, and insulating glue is poured in the box, which has the effect of waterproof sealing and compensation insulation.

(3) The usual process procedures of manufacturing center joints (including terminal heads): The operating procedures of manufacturing center joints and terminal heads are basically the same, which can be divided into three periods, namely preparation before manufacturing, manufacturing process and post-manufacturing experiment.

①Preparation work before manufacturing: Check whether the various parts are complete according to the drawings. All parts that touch the cable oil must be cleaned with qualified cable oil; the cable is damp, and it is necessary to admit that there is no moisture in the insulation before connecting it.
②The manufacturing process should include: sawing off the remaining cables; cutting off a certain length of cable outer sheath according to the length of the cable head, removing the asphalt, and treating the metal surface clean; according to the length of the cable head, stripping a certain length of metal with an aluminum stripping knife Sheath, remove the semiconductor layer on the insulating surface; Conductor connection; Wrap insulation or increase winding insulation; Device joint shell, for sealing treatment; Pouring insulation, waterproof sealant (asphalt, epoxy resin, etc.).
③Experiment: Experiments should be carried out after manufacturing to ensure compliance.
