We all know what transformers are made of; That includes the tap switch we share today. Let us know what the tap switch in the transformer is used to do?

First of all, let’s understand the main components of the transformer:

1. Transformer body: composed of iron core, winding, wire and insulation parts.

2. Voltage regulating device: tap switch; Tap switches are also classified as on-load and unexcited voltage regulators.

3. Cooling device and fuel tank.

4. Protection device: oil storage tank, oil purifier, moisture absorber, safety airway, gas relay, temperature measuring device, etc.

5. Insulation device: insulation sleeve.

Let’s understand the functions of the tap switch:

The transformer tap switch is used to adjust the output voltage of the transformer. Since the voltage in the power system is not exactly the same anywhere in the grid, in order to enable the transformer to output its rated voltage, no matter where the transformer is installed in the grid, multiple taps are provided in the high voltage windings of the transformer, and the taps are connected to the tap switch and the grid by a switch. In this way, by connecting the tap converter with different transformer winding taps, the ratio of turns of the transformer high and low winding can be changed, so as to adjust the transformer output voltage.

There are two kinds of tap switches: load regulation and no excitation regulation. The former can only adjust the tap switch position when the transformer is disconnected from the grid, while the latter can adjust the tap joint position when the transformer is in operation mode. General transformer if there is no special requirements, the use of no-load voltage regulating tap switch.
